๐ต The Role of Music in Hiraeth: Soundtracks and Inspirations
๐ถ “Where Words Fade, Music Bleeds Through”
For some writers, the muse is a plot twist. For me, it’s distortion pedals, guttural lyrics, and one track on loop until the scene bleeds.
Music is marrow in House of Teeth—not just in the world (Toad Biscuit, Kriia’s dances, Remi’s past) but in its making.

๐ Soundtracks of Survival: Book-by-Book Inspirations
๐ฉธ Book 1: No Kingdom for a Fang
๐ง Theme: “Almost Ecstasy” – Wind Walkers
Lyric Match:
"Now I'm higher than I've ever been
I just love the way we love to sin
Laying there with me
Almost ecstasy"
This is Kriia and Rexar’s beginning—too fast, too close, too much to be safe.
It mirrors their highwire walk between danger and desire, between soul-starvation and the relief of being seen.
This was the soundtrack to the kitchen floor scene, the voicemail echo, and the kiss that came with claws.
๐️ Book 2: A Hymn for the Hollow
๐ง Theme: “Through the Trees” – Low Shoulder (yes, from Jennifer’s Body)
Lyric Match:
"I don't know how we ended up here...
The broken glass in front of me
Your shadow hanging over me"
Jennifer’s Body vibes run deep here: obsession, betrayal, a fire that wasn’t just literal.
This song follows Vee’s spiral and the tension pulling Rexar and Kriia apart even as they cling to each other.
This is the theme for the venue fire, Rexar’s unraveling, and the moment he sings to Kriia on that rooftop—not knowing it could be goodbye.
๐ซ️ Book 3: The Color of Regret
๐ง Theme: “One Day I’ll Have to Leave” – Thornskin
Lyric Match:
"I've been living fast like I'm waiting to die
Getting high so I don’t have to survive
In a cold world with people colder than ice"
This track is Kriia and Remi’s past—drug haze, rust-red grief, and neon-lit regret.
It scores their overdose cycles, the bathroom door, and the ache that never really left.
Washed Out Violet plays like a slow confession, and this track bleeds through every word.
๐ Book 4: To Dream Beneath Dying Stars
๐ง Theme: “Time Changes Everything” – The Plot In You
Lyric Match:
"Watch the ones that I can't touch
As I drift away, fade away
Can't forgive myself
Can't forget yesterday"
This is the war requiem. The ghost song. The grief you scream into the stars.
Remi’s death, Levi’s sacrifice, Meeko’s cry. A world cracked open for the hope of one soul.
If you’ve ever loved someone enough to fight hell for them, this song’s for you.
๐ค Sound Within the World: Music As Magic
Rexar Fang: Frontman of Toad Biscuit. His lyrics prophesy long before he does. “I Caught Feelings & Fire” = his inner monologue.
Kriia Thomas: Dancer, fighter, performer. Music is the ghost writer for her life.
Remi Connor: Guitar and ghosts. His songs are soft weapons. His voice breaks before his body ever did.
